Inaugurating the Disaster Risk Management Programme being implemented in 9 coastal districts in the State, jointly by the State Revenue Department and the UNDP, at the Vikas Albertain Animation Centre at Kottappuram, near Kodungallur, on Sunday, he said that the members of the YKS would be given adequate training in the management of risk in the event of any disaster.
He said that it was advisable to incorporate modern technology capable of withstanding earthquakes while constructing new buildings.
He said that the technology being employed in Japan for the construction of buildings is resistant to earthquakes.
Referring to the National Games, Vijayakumar said that Thrissur district will have venues for the event.
However, he did not specify the events. In his presidential address, Revenue Minister K P Rajendran said that the Government had proposed to establish rescue shelters for three villages in the coastal areas for providing emergency accommodation to people affected with natural and other disasters.
He said that village offices and selected schools in the coastal areas would be provided with first aid kits. At the function, the minister inaugurated the distribution of first aid kits by handing over a kit to the Azhikode village officer.
